AI Operating Partner · Fractional CAIO

A permanent seat at the table for AI prioritization.

Josef-owned engagement equivalent to a Fractional Chief AI Officer (Fractional CAIO) relationship. Roadmap evolution, governance cadence, and new-workflow prioritization after the Audit.

Why it exists

The decision layer does not go away after the first wave ships.

AI is not a project. Once the first Audit is complete and the first wave of workflows is in production, the decision layer does not retire. New tools appear. Existing workflows need tuning. Leadership keeps getting asked to make AI calls at a pace that outruns a typical operations leader.

Many mid-market firms do not need a full-time Chief AI Officer. What they need is Josef Holm owning the engagement personally, close enough to make the next call on a new tool, a new exposure, or a new regulator question.

That is what the AI Operating Partner service exists to be.

What HIP does

A standing cadence of decision work.

01

Quarterly AI review

Every quarter, the entire AI surface is reviewed. What is compounding, what has stalled, what should be retired, and where the next opportunity sits.

02

Roadmap evolution

The operating roadmap from the initial Audit is a living document. It gets updated against new workflow data, new tooling, and new operating constraints.

03

New-workflow prioritization

When leadership sees a new opportunity or a vendor pitch, HIP stress-tests it against the operating roadmap before capital or calendar is committed.

04

Governance and risk cadence

Regular review of exposure, access, data handling, and human-in-the-loop controls. Risk is surfaced early, not after an incident.

05

Executive working sessions

A recurring direct line to Josef for the AI calls that do not fit neatly into a quarterly cadence.

06

Exit on request

The engagement is renewable, not locked. If the internal capacity matures to the point where the Partner is no longer needed, it ends cleanly.

Who this is for

For companies that plan to keep compounding, not just ship once.

Strong fit

  • You have completed at least one Agentic AI Readiness Audit and acted on it.
  • You expect AI to be an ongoing operating lever for the next three to five years.
  • You do not want to hire a full-time AI operations executive, or the market cost of that hire is unjustified for your size.
  • Leadership values having senior operating judgment available for prioritization calls.

Not a fit

  • You have not yet completed an Audit. The Partner service is not an advisory retainer to sell AI to you.
  • You want a full-time internal resource. HIP is a partner, not a staff hire.
  • You are looking for an extension of your marketing or sales team. This is an operating-layer service, not a growth service.
What this is not

A Partner is scoped advisory + delivery not an open-ended retainer.

  1. Implementation or execution (that is Integration Execution)
  2. Vendor brokerage or tool resale
  3. Open-ended retainer with no defined scope
  4. A replacement for operational leadership
Engagement shape

Term-based, renewable, scoped at the end of the Audit.

The Partner engagement is scoped after the Audit with a defined operating cadence. Renewal is mutual.

Fee depends on the operating surface, number of entities, and cadence. It is quoted in the Audit readout or after an Oversight or Execution engagement closes.

Common questions

What leadership asks about the Partner service.

Is this a retainer?

It is a term engagement with a defined operating cadence, not an open retainer. There are specific deliverables and a defined scope each quarter. Renewal is a conscious decision on both sides.

How is this different from a fractional CTO or Chief AI Officer?

The AI Operating Partner is the Fractional Chief AI Officer (Fractional CAIO) engagement at HIP. The role sits at the AI Operating System above the technology stack. It is about decision quality, sequencing, and governance, not hands-on technical leadership the way a fractional CTO works inside the codebase.

Do we need to have worked with HIP before?

Yes. The Partner service builds on the operating roadmap installed by the initial Audit. It is not a standalone engagement and it is not sold as a way around doing the Audit first.

What if our needs change mid-term?

The cadence flexes. Scope adjustments are discussed at the quarterly review. If the internal operating capacity matures and the Partner is no longer required, the engagement can be closed cleanly at term end.

Start

The Partner engagement starts after execution has settled.

This is the service for operators who want the decision layer staffed for the long run. It begins after a Audit, and usually after the first wave of execution is live. Apply to work with HIP to begin.
